INTRODUCTION TO KPP

My life as a teenager may have been like most others as each day went by dreaming of cars.  I always had a performance car magazine in my hand to fuel my desires.  The oil & fuel shortages during the 70’s forced a dismal outlook on the performance arena although hi-perf tidbits could still be found under the hood on that months “Cover Car”.  I collected so many mags they took up half a dozen tote bins until the time all car buff mags faded off the grid.  A few years back it was time to move into a different home and my wife asked if I could lighten the movers load by tossing some or all the bins of car mags.  I shook my head as she wished and then began to categorize all my stock.  But instead of throwing any out, I filed them issues based on technical content.  The one article from yesteryear that caught my attention was the Muffler Test. 

This auto buff mag had about ten mufflers run through testing to find the winner.  It began something like this:  All these mufflers look the same but perform different.  I thought:  If enthusiasts in our hobby are able to make choices and select their performance parts from vast unique offerings in the marketplace, why should the muffler selection be limited to  . . . They’re all the same!  We need excitement in our mufflers!
